ADVENTURES OF A JAPANESE BUSINESS MAN

Esta es la portada para la edición en inglés de Aventuras de un oficinista japonés que sale publicado de la mano de Nobrow este octubre en Reino Unido y en 2013 en Estados Unidos. Ni que decir tiene que me hace una ilusión tremenda esta edición, tanto por ver al oficinista dando vueltas por parajes extranjeros como por el hecho de que salga editado con una de las editoriales más interesantes ahora mismo en el panorama comiquero internacional.

Con motivo de esta edición, realicé una nueva cubierta doble que podéis ver a continuación, amén de un par de ilustraciones interiores que postearé en próximas entradas. Por el momento, aquí van, amén de las imágenes de la cubierta, unas cuantas fotos del libro en sí.

¡ Larga vida al oficinista!

This is the cover for the english editon of Adventures of a Japanese Business Man, which is being released by Nobrow this October in UK and in 2013 in USA. Needless to say the tremendous illusion this edition makes me feel as much to see the little business man wandering foreign places as to being published by one of the most interesting houses existing nowadays in the comic scene.

As said on the back cover, Adventures of a Japanes Office Worker is a book in which evertything can happen and does, while this little grey japanese business man tries to head home after work and gets involved in a succession of strange events, including Yakuzas, mutations, love stories,a satanic postal office and a bubblegum meteorite.

In order to this edition I drew a brand new double cover which you can see below as well as two new interior illustrations I will post on future entries. For now here are, alongside with the cover images, a few photos of the book.

PREMIO HUMOR AKELARRE

Esta viñeta me ha valido resultar ganador del I concurso Internacional de Humor Gráfico "Bruixas i Bruixots" convocado con motivo del XXXV Aquelarre 2012, una fiesta que se celebra en Cervera, Lleida y se inaugura el próximo día 23 de Agosto, incluyendo una muestra con los 50 mejores dibujos presentados al certamen.

MASTERCLASS en O GARAXE HERMÉTICO

Este Sábado 9 de Junio imparto una Masterclass en la escuela O Garaxe Hermético, la primera escuela profesional de comic e ilustración en Galicia en horario de 10:30 a 14:30 .


Cuatro horazas de clase en las que hablaré del proceso de creación de Aventuras de un Oficinista Japonés, los entresijos narrativos de la obra, el peculiar aspecto formal del tebeo y de cómo jugar con unas reglas autoimpuestas para crear cómics puede reforzar la narratividad y crear ritmos y sensaciones, analizando páginas, secuencias y viñetas tan pormenorizadamente que ríase usted de los del CSI.


También hablaré de estos aspectos en otros de mis tebeos, como El Gran Flaffy, Lily&Pucha e historias cortas y ,después de esto, habrá una parte de taller en la que trataremos de llevar a la práctica este juego y proceso creativo dibujando tebeos, cómo no.

Next Saturday June the 9th I´m giving a masterclass at O Garaxe Hermético, the first professional school of comic and illustration in Galicia.


I will talk about the creative process of Adventures of a Japanese Business Man, its narrative in and outs, its particular formal aspect and how playing with self imposed rules when creating a comic can reinforce its narrative and helps creating rythms and sensations, analyzing pages, sequences and panels in a CSI level of detail.


I will also talk about this aspects in another works like The Great Flaffy, Lily&Pucha and other short stories. After that, we´ll have a workshop part in which we´ll try to put into practice this creative process creating comics.

En el periódico

Esta es la ilustración exclusiva que realicé para el suplemento cultural Artes & Letras de Galicia del ABC que apareció este pasado sábado en el que han dedicado nada menos que tres páginas a Aventuras de un Oficinista Japonés y servidor.

This is the exclusive cover I did for the cultural supplement of the spanish newspaper ABC which appeared last Saturday with three pages dedicated to my book Adventures of a Japanese Business Man.

Black Pulp Box

Esta viñeta es un extracto del tebeo que hice para la Black Pulp Box de Aristas Martínez, una multiedición en caja que contiene 6 libros de diversa índole ( revista de cómic, novelas de bolsillo, ensayo, fanzine y monografía de relatos) sobre la blaxploitation desde un punto de vista actual y cañí.


Para la edición, además de participar como autor, fui coordinador junto con David Rubín de la revista de cómic Betunia, lo que fue un placer enorme al poder contar con el trabajo una impresionante lista de autores: Guitián, Emma Ríos, Mik Baro, Xurxo G Penalta, Jano, Paula Carro, Sagar Forniés, Sergi Álvarez, Martín López, Gustavo Rico, Darío Adanti, Miguel B. Núñez, Fidel Martínez, Miguel Porto, Luis Bustos, Brais Rodriguez, Tebo y David Rubín. El resultado ha sido espectacular, como podéis ver en la foto aquí abajo.

Y al hilo de la Black Pulp Box, esta semana, entre el jueves y el sábado tienen lugar en Madrid diversos actos de presentación y festejo de tan interesante parto, a saber:


- Jueves 24 a las 20:00h en la librería Arrebato ( C/ La Palma, 21): Presentación de la Black Pulp Box
- Jueves 24 a las 22:30h en The Maderfaker Funk Club ( C/ San Vicente Ferrer, 17): Fiesta Bogaloo de presentación ( entrada libre)
- Sábado 26 a las 11:30h: Firma de ejemplares de la caja en el stand de Madrid Comics en la Feria del Libro de Madrid.

The panel you  can see at the beginning of the post is an excerpt of the short story I did for the Black Pulp Box of Aristas Martinez publishing house ( dedicated to artistic, weird and special books). The Black Pulb Box is a multiple edition around blaxploitation from an actual and hispanized point of view and includes 6 books: a comic magazine, two pocket novels, a fanzine, short story monography and an essay about black supeheroes on comics since the beginning of the 20th century.


For the edition,  besides to taking part as an author, I also had the pleasure of coordinating together with David Rubín the comic magazine called Betunia included in the box, in which we had the luck of having a great bunch of spanish authors participating such as Guitián, Emma Ríos, Mik Baro, Xurxo G Penalta, Jano, Paula Carro, Sagar Forniés, Sergi Álvarez, Martín López, Gustavo Rico, Darío Adanti, Miguel B. Núñez, Fidel Martínez, Miguel Porto, Luis Bustos, Brais Rodriguez, Tebo y David Rubín. 


The final result is spectacular, as you can see on the images above.


Also during this week we´re at Madrid celebrating through different events the birth of the creature.

Aventuras de un oficinista japonés se ha llevado el Premio a mejor obra de autor español de 2011 en el 30º Salón de Barcelona.

¿Qué puedo decir? GRACIAS, a todos los implicados, a mi familia, amigos y compañeros, a mis valientes editores de Bang, a los compañeros de profesión,  a los que habéis dado difusión al libro y sobre todo, a todos los que os habéis leído el tebeo y habéis invertido vuestra pasta ganada con sudor y lágrimas mi cómic, ¡ locos!

Adventures of a Japanese Business Man won the Best National Book Award of  2011 at the Barcelona Comic Festival.

What can I say? THANK YOU to all implied on this, to mi family, friends and mates, to my brave publishers at Bang Publishing, to my colleagues, to whom spreaded the goods of the book and, specially, to all of you who spent your hardly earned money on my book, you crazy people!

But beautyfully crazy.
